This is a little eerie Robert — just before I sat down and read your article tonight I was re-organizing my computer room and was working with one of the Tandy 1000 variants, possibly the same model showcased in the picture at the head of your article (1000 SX, possibly an SL?).

As odd as it sounds, I have always liked playing around with MS-DOS assembly. When NASM came along a few years ago, it was a great tool. I still do a bit when the mood strikes me, as well as a bit of 6502/6510 on my Commodore 64.

Like you said, it really isn’t practical in most cases anymore, but even at that, I think working with lower level code closer to the hardware gives you the opportunity to really put on your logic hat and be as efficient as possible. The above quote from your article puts it very succinctly.
