I think you are ‘bang on’ with this…and it is a concept that could be applied across almost anything and we often forget it. Applying it to computer programming, the language you use is less important than the fundamental concepts such as loops, variables, recursion, and so forth. Stepping outside of computing and technology, you could apply it to accounting, carpentry…almost anything. Developing those basic skills and techniques and understanding them is the really important part. It allows you to deal more effectively with whatever curve balls are thrown at you in the future.
