I agree, we don’t need to cheer the passing of any particular technology. Browser based games have their place and there was/is a lot of great games out there. As mentioned by Mateus Oliveira in his comment, not everyone could afford consoles or higher performance PCs to play on. For myself, when browser games were increasing in popularity I had a young family and had recently changed careers so I was a bit short on leisure time, but I still wanted to play games as I had done since I was a kid. Browser based games allowed me to play a variety of games without spending a lot of money and without committing to things like scheduled raid times :) . I could play for five minutes and walk away easily if needed.
