Hi Albert, nice to meet another Commodore/Apple collector :) Nostalgia for the 1980s programming and gaming is a big reason for my collecting as well. I intend to put up a part three article in the next couple days talking about some of my personal reasons why I got into the hobby.

I have had power supply problems as well, of the two it has happened more often with the Commodore ‘black brick’ supplies that the 64 and the Vic tended to be shipped with. I’ve had a couple machines over the years develop other issues (ICs messed up) because of bad supplies. I think a common issue is capacitors in the supplies that lose their integrity over the years.

A couple other collectors I have talked with have made their own supplies for the machines to ensure reliability, I did the same a few years ago as well for one of mine, but it is always nice to have the original equipment to use or display the systems with. As you say, there are modern replacements available off the shelf from some companies as well. Most of those darned bricks they shipped with are filled with some kind of resin or plastic around the parts, so trying to actually fix them isn’t much of an option.
